Owl's perfect mimetism

No, it is a butterfly.
It only exists in South America especially in Brazil - known as Caligo Brasiliensis. It is known as "Borboleta-coruja"/ "Owl-butterfly" because the insight-out of it's wing mimics an owl to confuse it' predators.
There are more butterflies with amazing mimetic shapes and I'll publish more of them.
Nature is wise and should be respected but human beings are far from respecting it's own species. I hope nothing happens in the environment making the wonders of nature disappear.

Sharp-minded Pepe Escobar on "Is Brazil the New United States?"

I just read another great article by Pepe Escobar, "Is Brazil the New United States?" written in 9/29, 2010.
Pepe Escobar is a Brazilian journalist who has lived and worked as a foreign correspondent in London since the mid-1980s. When not on the road he lives between São Paulo, Paris and Bangkok.
A very gifted and sharp minded who speaks with a smile on his face.
Read the article to understand Brazil.
I took this comment from a Brazilian to show how some Brazilian people think about... our country:

Olga Pagu
03:39 PM on 09/29/2010

I don't believe Brazil wants to become the new United States. At least not the present-day United States. Although there are a lot o people sympathetic to the United States in Brazil, most Brazilians look at Europe or Japan as real symbols of development.
Most Brazilians are peaceful and do their best to avoid conflicts, they would never give any support fo an agressive foreign policy. Besides, fair diplomacy is one of Brazil's main characteristics since it was and Empire in the 19th century. I haven't heard of a country of continental size that has expanded its territory without making wars or revolutions, like Brazil did.
We are not interested in other countrie's resources, we're not interested in telling other people what they should do, we are not interested in meddling in other peoples' affairs.
I live in Brazil and I really don't see people wishing us to be "superpowers". Brazilians just want to live and let live. We just want to be able to determine our future as WE (not others) wish and have our sovereign decisions respected.
I don't care if we will be on top of China or not. I just want good public education, universal health care, no more slums, and less corruption. Let the world do their wars, we just want "order and progress". Oh... but I do think Brazil should have atomic weapons. Just in case...

I agree Olga Pagu! Let live.

I'm trying to find a good Biography about Pepe Escobar and the best I found was a post at Mike Booth: The Gringo Chronicles": "Who is Pepe Escobar Anyway?"  Here and here, is a good collection of Pepe's articles who is the author of three books.

"I think you’ll find a new depth and fresh insights into every subject Escobar touches upon. For me it’s like having a curtain drawn back before my eyes. It makes me realize just how timid and limited is the reporting done on the same subjects by the mainstream media."
Mike Booth

"An extreme traveler, Pepe’s nose for news has taken him toall parts of the  globe. He was in Afghanistan and interviewed the military leader of the anti-Taliban Northern Alliance, Ahmad Shah Masoud, a couple of weeks before his assassination (Masoud: From warrior to statesman, Sep 11, 2001). Two weeks before September 11, 2001, while Pepe was in the tribal areas of Pakistan, ATol published his prophetic piece, Get Osama! Now! Or else … (Aug 30, 2001). Pepe was one of the first journalists to reach Kabul after the Taliban’s retreat, and more recently he has explored and reported from Iraq, Iran, Central Asia, US and China …" (continue reading)

Thank you Pepe for being so bright and representing real Brazilian journalism.

Drugwatch: Prescription drug deaths on the rise

This article from DrugWatch portrays the dimension of the harms of prescribed drugs.
It's a must-read since all people will have to face a health problem.
Information is the weapon not to be harmed by medicines that are on the market because of greed but are harmful some in a lethal degree.

Excerpts:
Prescription Drug Deaths On The Rise

The statistics and the facts are staggering: More than 40 people a day across the country die from prescription pain medication overdoses; more and more doctors are getting huge payouts from pharmaceutical companies to promote these drugs; and in the past 10 years, U.S. spending on prescription drugs rose 475 percent.

The relationship between doctors and pharmaceutical goliaths has reached the point of being suspiciously cozy, ethically questionable and life-threatening to unsuspecting patients at risk of drug addiction and death. And those most affected aren’t who you think.

Gone are the days when society’s drug addicts are the strung-out junkies living in crack houses – people you see on the 11 o’clock news. No, many of today’s addicts are your neighbors, church friends and children – maybe even your own children. And many of them got their start from their own trusted physicians.

Dr. Thomas Frieden, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), told Fox News that doctors are handing out narcotics like candy. Some doctors are giving patients prescriptions for narcotics for minor injuries when other medications could work just as well.

“When I went to medical school, we were incorrectly assured, ‘Don’t worry, if patients have short-term pain, they won’t get hooked. That was completely wrong, and a generation of doctors, patients and families learned that’s a tragic mistake."

Painkiller Epidemic

"In November 2011, the CDC, the country’s national public health institute, announced that deaths from prescription drugs more than tripled in the past decade. Nationwide, the most abused medications are narcotic pain relievers like hydrocodone (Vicodin) and oxycodone (OxyContin); depressants like diazepam (Valium); and stimulants such as Adderall. Is science free to research? Are there dissents in science?

Science is about truth and with the help of the imagery of laboratories where serious people try experiments with colorful liquids, the glamour of equations that are impossible to understand, the seemingly speed of technological progress some people don't doubt. The mainstream media also helps promoting science as the unquestionable truth.
However receiving money to conduct a research and having a hypotheses accepted as a theory is not that simple.
These paragraphs help us understand what happens.

The New Thought Police – Suppressing Dissent in Science

by Mae-Wan Ho and Jonathan Mathews
Entire article: here.

Excerpts:

"Science has seldom lived up to its ideal as an open, disinterested enquiry into nature, as any scientist who has ever tried to publish genuinely new ideas or findings in the ‘peer-reviewed’ scientific journals will know too well. Nobel Laureate Hans Krebs’ discovery of the metabolic cycle that would eventually bear his name was rejected from the journal Nature. Albert Szent-Gyorgyi, another Nobel prize-winning biochemist, never got funded for work on the relevance of quantum physics to living organisms, which is crucial for understanding living organisms and why cell phones may be harmful, for example.

In the course of liberating itself from the Church, the scientific establishment has inherited many of the trappings of fundamentalist religion. There can be but One True Science, and everything else tends to be treated as nonsense or heresy. Within the past 50 years, the suppression of dissent has plumbed new depths, as the scientific establishment is increasingly getting into bed with big business. At first, it was mostly physics and chemistry, now it is pre-eminently biology.

And as corporations are growing bigger and more powerful, so the suppression of scientific dissent is becoming more sophisticated, insidious and extensive. As the scientific and the political mainstream have both come to identify with corporate aims, so their established power structures are brought to bear on squashing scientific dissent and engineering consensus. Witness the seamless way in which the corporations, the state and the scientific establishment are co-ordinating their efforts to force feed the world with GM crops, known to be unsafe and unsustainable, and to offer no proven benefits whatsoever either to farmers or consumers."

Who is who in humanitarian aid in Syria: understand Syria conflict in four paragraphs

Things get so confused that it is hard to understand who is doing what to who with the help of who.
This article by Tony Cartalucci is very enlightening if you are lost. In two sentences:
US send a couple of armed people to the country and the media says that the people of the country is revolting. They need "humanitarian aid" and a bloodshed is carried.
The people? Good question! They are killed, massacred, tortured in the name of "humanitarian aid". Yes, you understood it correctly. As perverse as it may seems this is what happened to some countries and now in Syria.

I took the last paragraphs of this article from Global Researsh:

CONFIRMED: US CIA Arming Terrorists in Syria
by Tony Cartalucci

"Despite months of the US claiming the "international community" sought to end the violence and protect the population of Syria, the New York Times now admits that the US is engaged in supporting a "military campaign" against the Syrian government aimed at increasing "pressure" on Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. Efforts to impose an arms embargo on Syria is now revealed to be one-sided, aimed at giving rebels an advantage in the prolonged bloodbath with the intent on tipping the balance in favor of Western proxy-forces - not end the violence as soon as possible as claimed by the UN, and in particular, Kofi Annan.

The Times also reported that Turkey has been directly delivering weapons to terrorists operating in Syria - Turkey being a NATO member and implicating NATO as now being directly involved in perpetuating bloodshed in the Middle Eastern nation. For months, Turkey has been allowing terrorists to use its border region as a refuge from which to stage attacks against Syria.

Despite this, however, the so-called "Free Syrian Army," according to the New York Times, consists of only 100 or so small formations made up of  "a handful of fighters to a couple of hundred combatants," betraying the narrative that the Syrian government faces a large popular uprising, and revealing that the "Free Syrian Army" is in fact a small collection of mercenaries, foreign fighters, and sectarian extremists, armed, funded, and directed by foreign interests solely to wreak havoc within Syria. It should be noted that these terrorist proxies were organized as early as 2007 by the US, Israel, and Saudi Arabia, specifically to enact regime change and transform Syria into a Western client regime.

As the West's propaganda campaign imploded after a torrent of unsubstantiated claims of "massacres" and "atrocities," all unverified, some in fact being revealed as the work of the West's sectarian proxies themselves,  it appears that sidelining Syria in headlines while pursuing a clandestine proxy war is now the tactic of choice for the time being.

For the United States to claim Syria has "failed" to protect it population while simultaneously fueling the very armed conflict it claims it is seeking to end is not only hypocrisy of the highest order, but a crime against world peace - punishable under the Nuremberg precedent."

I hope it helps.

R. D. Laing: a Homage

"There is a great deal of pain in life and perhaps the only pain that can be avoided is the pain that comes from trying to avoid pain."

"We live in a moment of history where change is so speeded up that we begin to see the present only when it is already disappearing."

"We are effectively destroying ourselves by violence masquerading as love."

"Whether life is worth living depends on whether there is love in life."
R. D. Laing

R.D. Laing was born in 1927 in Glasgow, Scotland. At university he become fascinated with hypnosis. In the Btitish Army, as a psychiatrist and Lieutenant, he began to have severe doubts about psychiatry as it was then being practised and the relationship between psychiatrist and patient. These doubts led to the publication of "The divided self". Other books include "The self and others", "The politics of experience" and "The painted bird".

Gustave Flaubert's Madame Bovary tantalizing introduction

I copied three paragraphs of Lewis Warsh's essay about Gustave Flaubert's Madame Bovary. I think
that it can help those who have not read the book to know a little of what they are missing.
I hope it helps. Don't forget to search for the term "bovarism".

"Already disappointed with humanity by the age of twenty-two, Gustave Flaubert abandoned the outside world and retired as a hermit to his
family's estate in the small town of Croisset, France. It was in
this provincial Normandy setting that he created one of the world's
great novels, Madame Bovary, and in which he spent most of his life
almost mystically devoted to literature. Since he was deeply
affected by stress and believed that a life of activity would damage
the creative process, he wanted to shut the door, close off all
distractions, and bury himself in work.

"The writing of Madame Bovary dominated Flaubert's life from 1851
to 1856. On completing the novel, he made no effort to publish it. But
at his friends' insistence, he sent it to the prestigious Revue de
Paris, which published Madame Bovary in installments in 1857.
The editors suggested he cut certain "offensive" passages, but the
author refused. He might have reacted differently if he had known what
lay ahead. Both Flaubert and his publishers were thrown into court
on grounds that the novel was morally and religiously offensive to the
public. Ironically, when the defendants won their case, Madame
Bovary became a national best-seller."

The book was also recognized as marking a turning point in the
history of the novel. The combination of realistic detail, objective
narrative technique, harmony of structure, and language chosen to
reflect the characters' personalities created a realistic, yet
beautiful, picture for the reader. Drawing on both the Romantic
emphasis on inner feelings and the Realist's concern for truth, Madame
Bovary serves as a bridge between Romanticism and the modern novel."

Madame Bovary had two lovers:

"She repeated, 'I have a lover! a lover!' delighting at the idea as if a second puberty had come to her. So at last she was to know those joys of love, that fever of happiness of which she had despaired! She was entering upon a marvelous world where all would be passion, ecstasy, delirium."

Columbine victim: Mark Taylor locked up to be drugged and remain silent

Interview with Mark's mother Donna Taylor.
Listen to internet radio with MedicalWhistleblower on Blog Talk Radio

The lawyer Wesley Hoyt is working for families of Columbine.
After the shooting, Mark had extensive hospitalization and was in and out of the hospital three times. The traumatic memory of that day will always remain with Mark Taylor.

Why is meek and mild Mark Taylor locked up and the Arizona shooter, Jared Loughner, allowed to run free based on HIS “Constitutional Rights” and commit mass murder???

This is our most comprehensive expose yet.  It ties the current illegal confinement of Mark Taylor in an Arizona mental hospital with an extensive re-edit of videos regarding the Bomb Warrant, The January Incident and the ensuing coverup.  On one of the videos, the news helicopter pilot is relating how the FAA was closing his air space even though he was three miles away!  Next up the “Roof Top Shooters” and why Mark is being persecuted and tortured.

Mark Taylor is a victim several times over:

  1. The shooting and lying there for two hours with bullets whizzing around him while he was bleeding from nearly a dozen bullet wounds.  Some bullets remain embedded in his spine and near his Aorta.  Because of the way the bullets ravaged Mark’s body, it was impossible for the surgeons to count the wounds.  The estimated bullet count ranges from 8 to 13.  Miraculously, he had a full recovery, went on a book tour, testified before the FDA and was interviewed on numerous television broadcasts.  Now he’s been declared an “incapacitated person.”  WHY ?
  2. Mark has been illegally detained and drugged TWICE now, this time for over a year.
  3. Michael Moore has forgotten to send his check to Mark for his part in the movie.
  4. The “government” of Arizona is committing multiple crimes including violations of Mark and Donna’s Freedom of Association, Guarantee of Counsel along with their fundamental Human Rights.  etc….

Now, under the best of circumstances, Mark faces one to two years of recovery and may never fully recover from the continued misuse and abuse of psychiatric medications.
Mark has been imprisoned illegally and the “Government of Arizona,” violating so many of Mark and Donna’s Constitutional Rights that I am too tired to list them all, but, I assure you, I’ll have them up on this site shortly, well, actually, they are lengthy, appallingly so! Of course, I may just be uneducated; maybe there is a logical explanation for this foul-up."

Source: ColumbineFamilyRequest.org. Wesley Hoyt is a private investigator who volunteered for  several Columbine families who are still trying to heal from the shootings on April 20, 1999.  "Why won’t Columbine heal?" he asks.

Donna Taylor: "Mark and I was interested on finding out why did they did the shooting. The other part of it is that they were drived... these boys were  the best kids in the school until they were messed up with drugs and they became a nightmare.
They were very friendly... listen to the interview.

URGENT: NATO preparing genocide in Syria: desinformation campaign first step

URGENT

NATO preparing vast disinformation campaign

by Thierry Meyssan

Member States of NATO and the GCC are preparing a coup d’état and a sectarian genocide in Syria. If you want to prevent these crimes, you should act now: circulate this article on the Internet and alert your elected officials.

VOLTAIRE NETWORK | DAMASCUS (SYRIA) | 11 JUNE 2012

In a few days, perhaps as early as Friday, June 15, at noon, the Syrians wanting to watch their national TV stations will see them replaced on their screens by TV programs created by the CIA. Studio-shot images will show massacres that are blamed on the Syrian Government, people demonstrating, ministers and generals resigning from their posts, President Al-Assad fleeing, the rebels gathering in the big city centers, and a new government installing itself in the presidential palace.

This operation of disinformation, directly managed from Washington by Ben Rhodes, the US deputy national security adviser for strategic communication, aims at demoralizing the Syrians in order to pave the way for a coup d’etat. NATO, discontent about the double veto of Russia and China, will thus succeed in conquering Syria without attacking the country illegally. Whichever judgment you might have formed on the actual events in Syria, a coup d’etat will end all hopes of democratization.

The Arab League has officially asked the satellite operators Arabsat and Nilesat to stop broadcasting Syrian media, either public or private (Syria TV, Al-Ekbariya, Ad-Dounia, Cham TV, etc.) A precedent already exists because the Arab League had managed to censure Libyan TV in order to keep the leaders of the Jamahiriya from communicating with their people. There is no Hertz network in Syria, where TV works exclusively with satellites. The cut, however, will not leave the screens black.

Actually, this public decision is only the tip of the iceberg. According to our information several international meetings were organized during the past week to coordinate the disinformation campaign. The first two were technical meetings, held in Doha (Qatar); the third was a political meeting and took place in Riyad (Saudi Arabia).

The first meeting assembled PSYOP officers, embedded in the satellite TV channels of Al-Arabiya, Al-Jazeera, BBC, CNN, Fox, France 24, Future TV and MTV. It is known that since 1998, the officers of the US Army Psychological Operations Unit (PSYOP) have been incorporated in CNN. Since then this practice has been extended by NATO to other strategic media as well.

They fabricated false information in advance, on the basis of a “story-telling” script devised by Ben Rhodes’s team at the White House. A procedure of reciprocal validation was installed, with each media quoting the lies of the other media to render them plausible for TV spectators. The participants also decided not only to requisition the TV channels of the CIA for Syria and Lebanon (Barada, Future TV, MTV, Orient News, Syria Chaab, Syria Alghad) but also about 40 religious Wahhabi TV channels to call for confessional massacres to the cry of “Christians to Beyrouth, Alawites into the grave!.”

The second meeting was held for engineers and technicians to fabricate fictitious images, mixing one part in an outdoor studio, the other part with computer generated images. During the past weeks, studios in Saudi Arabia have been set up to build replicas of the two presidential palaces in Syria and the main squares of Damascus, Aleppo and Homs. Studios of this type already exist in Doha (Qatar), but they are not sufficient.

The third meeting was held by General James B. Smith, the US ambassador, a representative of the UK, prince Bandar Bin Sultan (whom former U.S. president George Bush named his adopted son so that the U.S. press called him “Bandar Bush”). In this meeting the media actions were coordinated with those of the Free "Syrian" Army, in which prince Bandar’s mercenaries play a decisive role.

The operation had been in the making for several months, but the U.S. National Security Council decided to accelerate the action after the Russian President, Vladimir Putin, notified the White House that he would oppose by all means, even by force, any illegal NATO military intervention in Syria.

The operation has a double intent: the first is to spread false information, the second aims at censuring all possible responses.

The hampering of TV satellites for military purposes is not new. Under pressure from Israel, the USA and the EU blocked Lebanese, Palestinian, Iraqi, Libyan and Iranian TV channels, one after the other. However, no satellite channels from other parts of the world were censured.

The broadcast of false news is also not new, but four significant steps have been taken in the art of propaganda during the last decade.
• In 1994, a pop music station named “Free Radio of the Thousand Hills” (RTML) gave the signal for genocide in Rwanda with the cry, “Kill the cockroaches!”
• In 2001, NATO used the media to impose an interpretation of the 9/11 attacks and to justify its own aggression against Afghanistan and Iraq. At that time already, it was Ben Rhodes who had been commissioned by the Bush administration to concoct the Kean/Hamilton Commission report on the attacks.
• In 2002, the CIA used five TV channels (Televen, Globovision, ValeTV and CMT) to make the public in Venezuela believe that phantom demonstrators had captured the elected president, Hugo Chávez, forcing him to resign. In reality he was the victim of a military coup d’etat.
• In 2011, France 24 served as information ministry for the Libyan CNT, according to a signed contract. During the battle of Tripoli, NATO produced fake studio films, then transmitted them via Al-Jazeera and Al-Arabiya, showing phantom images of Libyan rebels on the central square of the capital city, while in reality they were still far away. As a consequence, the inhabitants of Tripoli were persuaded that the war was lost and gave up all resistance.

Nowadays the media do not only support a war, they produce it themselves.

This procedure violates the principles of International Law, first of all Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights relating to the fact of receiving and imparting information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers.” Above all, the procedure violates the United Nations General Assembly resolution, adopted after the end of World War II, to prevent further wars. Resolutions 110, 381 and 819 forbid “to set obstacles to free exchange of information and ideas” (like cutting off Syrian TV channels) and “all propaganda provoking or encouraging threats to peace, breaking peace, and all acts of aggression”. By law, war propaganda is a crime against peace, the worst of crimes, because it facilitates war crimes and genocide.

John Lennon's Mind Games

Mind Games
John Lennon

We're playing those mind games together
Pushing the barriers planting seeds
Playing the mind guerrilla
Chanting the Mantra peace on earth
We all been playing those mind games forever
Some kinda druid dudes lifting the veil
Doing the mind guerrilla
Some call it magic the search for the grail

Love is the answer and you know that for sure
Love is a flower you got to let it grow

So keep on playing those mind games together
Faith in the future out of the now
You just can't beat on those mind guerrillas
Absolute elsewhere in the stones of your mind
Yeah we're playing those mind games together
Projecting our images in space and in time

Yes is the answer and you know that for sure
Yes is surrender you got to let it go

So keep on playing those mind games together
Doing the ritual dance in the sun
Millions of mind guerrillas
Putting their soul power to the karmic wheel
Keep on playing those mind games together
Raising the spirit of peace and love
(I want you to make love, not war
I know you've heard it before)

21th Century Most Dangerous People: those who dare to mix

Mixing: The crime of the century.
"In 1845, Ralph Waldo Emerson, alluding to the development of European civilization out of the medieval Dark Ages, wrote in his private journal of America as the Utopian product of a culturally and racially mixed "smelting pot", but only in 1912 were his remarks first published. In his writing, Emerson explicitly welcomed the racial intermixing of whites and non-whites, a highly controversial view during his lifetime."
"In The Melting Pot (1905), Zangwill combined a romantic denouement with a utopian celebration of complete cultural intermixing. The play was an adaptation of William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, set in New York City.

America: Political prisoners? How US government became the most dangerously ridiculous regime ever

In 2009 I met Lauren Weyland and wrote two posts about her. This is her place where she performs every Tuesday and where I go from time to time when there is nobody around.
It's a nice place and I remember Lauren's accent and her friends most of them Americans.
I took these pictures because I've been thinking about what is happening in America and I cannot help being deeply concerned. Patriot Act, NDAA and political prisoners.

"Political prisoners" is very familiar to me because I lived under dictatorship. I thought that I would never hear this label being used to put Americans in jail.
But it is and the people they are incarcerating under this label are everything but "political prisoners".
The existence of "Eco-defend prisoners" or "Eco-prisoners" is an aberration and it only shows how the US government has crossed all lines. Neither Kafka or Orwells could think of such a ridiculous reason to put people in jail: defending earth and it's inhabitants.

Visit Jericho Mouvement or Earth Liberation Prisoners Support Network (ELP) for more information.
Next  June 11th is the international day of solidarity with long-term political prisoners. Spread the word.

Israel "wiped off the map"? No, Ahmadinejad never said that

THE PROOF:

The full quote translated directly to English:

"The Imam said this regime occupying Jerusalem must vanish from the page of time".

Imam (Khomeini) ghoft (said) een (this) rezhim-e (regime) ishghalgar-e (occupying) qods (Jerusalem) bayad (must) az safheh-ye ruzgar (from page of time) mahv shavad (vanish from).

Israel: "Wiped off The Map". The Rumor of the Century, Fabricated by the US Media to Justify An All out War on Iran
by Arash Norouzi

On Tuesday, October 25th, 2005 at the Ministry of Interior conference hall in Tehran, newly elected Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad delivered a speech at a program, reportedly attended by thousands, titled "The World Without Zionism". Large posters surrounding him displayed this title prominently in English, obviously for the benefit of the international press. Below the poster's title was a slick graphic depicting an hour glass containing planet Earth at its top. Two small round orbs representing the United States and Israel are shown falling through the hour glass' narrow neck and crashing to the bottom.

Before we get to the infamous remark, it's important to note that the "quote" in question was itself a quote— they are the words of the late Ayatollah Khomeini, the father of the Islamic Revolution. Although he quoted Khomeini to affirm his own position on Zionism, the actual words belong to Khomeini and not Ahmadinejad. Thus, Ahmadinejad has essentially been credited (or blamed) for a quote that is not only unoriginal, but represents a viewpoint already in place well before he ever took office.

     THE ACTUAL QUOTE:

So what did Ahmadinejad actually say? To quote his exact words in farsi:

"Imam ghoft een rezhim-e ishghalgar-e qods bayad az safheh-ye ruzgar mahv shavad."

That passage will mean nothing to most people, but one word might ring a bell: rezhim-e. It is the word "Regime", pronounced just like the English word with an extra "eh" sound at the end. Ahmadinejad did not refer to Israel the country or Israel the land mass, but the Israeli regime. This is a vastly significant distinction, as one cannot wipe a regime off the map. Ahmadinejad does not even refer to Israel by name, he instead uses the specific phrase "rezhim-e ishghalgar-e qods" (regime occupying Jerusalem).

So this raises the question.. what exactly did he want "wiped from the map"? The answer is: nothing. That's because the word "map" was never used. The Persian word for map, "nagsheh", is not contained anywhere in his original farsi quote, or, for that matter, anywhere in his entire speech. Nor was the western phrase "wipe out" ever said. Yet we are led to believe that Iran's President threatened to "wipe Israel off the map", despite never having uttered the words "map", "wipe out" or even "Israel".

THE PROOF:

The full quote translated directly to English:

"The Imam said this regime occupying Jerusalem must vanish from the page of time".

  Word by word translation:

Imam (Khomeini) ghoft (said) een (this) rezhim-e (regime) ishghalgar-e (occupying) qods (Jerusalem) bayad (must) az safheh-ye ruzgar (from page of time) mahv shavad (vanish from).

Here is the full transcript of the speech in farsi, archived on Ahmadinejad's web site:

The dance of the cows in Spring by Erik van Elven

This is one of the great works of Erik van Elven. I was taking a look at his blog and felt like sharing some of his sketches. "Jump" is the first one:
"In Dutch, the translation for "Jump" is "Spring", the same as the season. For me, spring has not begun until the cows are back in the meadows, after they've stayed indoors all winter long.
The sheer joy, like little kids in a playground, of these massive animals is very inspirational and you can't help but smile when you witness the cows do their dance..."
Erik van Elven
I remember the first time I, a city-person, saw a cow. I stared into her eyes and... no words to describe that feeling.
